Adam Bleakney

Adam Bleakney is the head coach of the University of Illinois’ renowned Wheelchair Track and Road Racing team, a role he has held since 2005. Under his leadership, Illinois athletes have achieved extraordinary success, winning 55 medals across four Paralympic Games and setting 14 world records. His athletes have also triumphed in major marathons, including Boston, London, Chicago, and New York. Recognized for his contributions to adaptive sports, Bleakney has been named U.S. Paralympic Coach of the Year three times.

In addition to coaching, Bleakney founded the Human Performance and Mobility Maker Lab at Illinois, where students collaboratively design assistive technologies. His work extends beyond academia, as he has consulted with companies like BMW, Toyota, and Bridgestone on accessible technology innovations. This interdisciplinary approach not only fosters athletic excellence but also drives advancements in technology that enhance mobility and accessibility for all.
